DATE: Friday April 17th
VENUE: Phantom Power (Millersville, PA)
SUBJECTS: Dry Kill Logic, Dizasterpiece, Husk
Blood and Earth, After The Fallen
Originally intended to be a 4-band bill it wasn’t until about a week and a half before the show that it was decided to add After the Fallen. I’ve been wanting to get these guys on a bill for some time now and their sound really compliments the show perfectly. The band now about 4 years old combines punk w/ hardcore and metal to get a great dish of music. Playing a six song set featuring some standouts like opener “Reflection”, “E.N.P” and their closing cover the Rolling Stones classic “Paint it Black”. The band really brought it and opened the show w/ energy and had the crowd involved. Including Dry Kill touring partner Dizasterpiece who was up in the pit and running around like a madman the entire set. Look for us to book these guys again as soon as we can.
The Scarecrow society was in full effect in Millersville last night. Along w/ their mascot Seth, the band Husk burst onto the stage in the way they always do. Wearing their signiture masks vocalist Mike Curley is a crowd mover w/ his banter and coming into the crowd numerous times during the set. They included their cover of “Push It” by the band Static-X, the band did a full tribute to that band a few years ago and showed how well they can do that particular style as well. “Push It” was a crowd pleaser and started the pits for the night. Guitarist Ben Curley also spend time in the midst of the people to help entice crowd participation. They dropped a video for newest track “Seance” in early February. They played it live for one of the first times live at Phantom Power. Then we got Seth’s song or “Scarecrow Man” to which numerous members walked the crowd. They closed off their set w/ “Nowhereland” and with that the band had owned the stage for 25 quick minutes.
Dry Kill Logic is a band formed in the mid 90’s and originally went under the name Hinge, or Hinge AD. Running the circuits w/ the Ozzfest crowd they wowed crowds with their intense live shows. “The Darker side of Nonsense” is one of the quintessential late 90’s Nu metal records. The band had went dormant around 2006 and finally came out of retirement of sorts last year to play a few festival gigs. They decided to play a few club gigs this year and we were lucky enough to get them. After 4 incredible bands, Dry Kill Logic burst on the stage w/ their hit “Nightmare”. The jumping and pits started instantly, it was like being back in 1999 when they were dominating crowds w/ high energy anarchy. Lead vocalist Cliff Rigano had stories from teh old days and showed nothing but appreciation for those in attendance last night. They played songs off all 3 records heavily focusing on their breakthrough the aforementioned “Darker Side of Nonsense” but also hit some deep cuts from “The Dead and Dreaming” and “Of Vengeance and Violence”. The band released a new track last year dubbed “Now You Belong w/ The Dead” which they played for the first time in Pennsylvania w/ us. The 15+ song, roughly an hour-long set was perfect. He even mentioned how last time they played the area which was 20 years ago they played a place called The Chameleon Club which I’m sure everybody remembers. After 20+ years the band has not missed a beat!!!

There is just no band like Blood & Earth. Sure there might be some similarities in sound w/ their groove type metal and screaming vocals but they stand out even in that sense. But their live show is the real strength. Vocalist Timmothy Lemmon doesn’t just show up and play, he screams parts w/out the mic, he also played the entire set on the floor. Not because the stage was to crowded, simply because he can and possibly feels more comfortable down with the people. The band surprise dropped a new 3 song ep just two weeks ago called “My End of Days”. During the set Drummer Alex one kick broke so he had to play w/ only one all night. The band didn’t panic, they adapted. Playing songs they could and still have the crowd moving.
After spending half the night headbanging, moshing and jumping off speakers during others sets New Jersey’s Dizasterpiece was able to let out the rest of his energizer bunny energy w/ his own brand of nu metal, rap rock. The band has been grinding it out by being road warriors for the past couple years and their live show is really the centerpiece for this band. High energy, crowd interaction and pure nu metal for 40 minutes is what you get and what we got. They also do a spectacular rendition of the Smashing Pumpkins “Zero” with more of a metal twist. He even has the crowd help w/ the chorus and it’s in those moments that you can really see the future w/ this band. The love from crowd, the energy and the attitude: humble but confident. Look for the band on tour w/ Jeffrey Nothing last this summer including a stop at Capital City Music Hall with us on August 8th.
