I had some prior obligations so was unable to be there before 9:00PM or so. I walked in during the WHEATUS Set. They are a real fun band with about 10 people up on stage. You’d know them by one song and that’s “Teenage Dirtbag”. Perhaps you aren’t aware you know Wheatus, if you go look that song up I assure you that you do. “is it Teenage Dirtbag time” he asked the crowd. With that the crowd screamed yes and the cell phones came out in droves as it was a sea of them during the final song of the evening for them. Having only caught 2 songs I can say they seem extremely fun and entertaining to see. Its always exciting to see songs that are that engraved into pop culture live.
One bummer is that I missed PLATINUM MOON, who is a favorite of mine. They played Lovedrafts on a few occasions and were the sweetest folks as well as a hell of a kick ass band. I asked a few folks how they did and I heard nothing but good things. I’m really glad to see them on this tour as they deserve all the success they seemingly have coming there way.

At this point one of the coolest moments happened as Whit took a sign from an audience member that said “Mr. Recordman Please”. This is a song that doesn’t get played live alot however singer Klaus did oblige and they also received special bracelets from the audience member named Max. From this point on the band were extremely interactive with the audience and introduced nearly every song having fun the whole time. The back half of the set included most the hits like “Milkman’s Son”, “Busy Bee” amongst others. One surprise I believe was they broke out an old track “Funky Fresh Country Club” that’s a bit of a live rarity as well. This was the bands final night of the tour so you could tell they were putting in some special moments. He would ask the crowd if we wanted 1, 2 or 3 more songs. As we all screamed three they agreed. They closed out w/ the aforementioned Funky Fresh followed by the bands Motorhead cover “Ace of Spades” and of course the Quintessential Ugly Kid Joe song “Everything About You” which had everyone in the room singing. Throughout the second half he would comment on how the shirt people were getting involved with the dancing and singing as well as give shout out to the bands Bus Driver, Staff and all those who help put the show together. 30+ Years into the bands career and they still seem like 20-year-old kids up there jamming their favorite songs and goofing off w/ each other. Upon the completion of the final song they took a bow and finished with a simple “Thank you, Peace”. Exiting the stage for the final time on this tour they now go relax and eventually hit the studio for a new record. The first since 2022’s “Rad Wings of Destiny”.

Whitefield Crane of Ugly Kid Joe Performs at Capital City Music Hall in Harrisburg.

After about a 25-minute wait, the lights dimmed and the current lineup of Cam Greenwood (Drums), Chris Catalyst (Guitar), Klaus Eichstadt (Guitar) and finally vocalist Whitefield Crane all walked upon stage as the band ripped into “Intro” from “Menace to Sobriety” followed directly by “Neighbor”, the hit song off “America’s Least Wanted”. Initially Crane was a bit detatched w/ the crowd as between songs he would simply go sit on the speaker and bob is head and enjoy as his band would play. He was very invested when singing though, making his facial expressions we’ve all come to love along w/ ducking down and singing directly to the folks in the front row. He had the crowd put their hands in the air and wave them throughout the night and when he says to do it you do it. The band would go through a plethora of old hits such as “Jesus Rode a Harley”, “Panhandlin’ Prince” and “Goddamn Devil”. The members of the band were all smiling and making faces to the crowd throughout the night and always interacting. They sounded spectacular. This is only the bands 2nd or 3rd United States tour in over 25 years as they did play Mechanicsburg three years ago as part of their first tour in that time. The crowd interaction began a little over halfway through when Whit would introduce one of the bands biggest hits which is the Harry Chapin cover “Cats in The Cradle”. Of course the entire crowd sang along. This was followed by the popular “I’m Alright” which is another great sing along song for the set.
